No One Driving

A song — How Control Collapses

Story — The Hand That Moved

Verse 1
I thought I held the steering wheel,
Thought I chose each turn,
Every move I called my own,
Every lesson mine to learn.
But I slowed it down and watched it close,
Right before the claim—
And everything I thought I did
Was already in the game.

Pre-Chorus
The action came, the thought came late,
Calling out a name…

Chorus
There’s no one driving this,
No hands upon the wheel,
Just motion happening freely
Before I say it’s real.
And all the things I thought I controlled
Were never really mine—
Just life moving on its own…
Right here, all the time.

Verse 2
I reached to turn the water off,
Before I knew I’d moved,
Then a voice said “that was me”—
But that voice had just approved.
Every step and every word,
Every breath I take—
Arrives before the story
Of the choices that I make.

Pre-Chorus
No centre point to call the shots,
No one there to claim the plot…

Chorus
There’s no one driving this,
No master in command,
Just patterns flowing through the body
Without a guiding hand.
And nothing falls apart without
The one I thought I’d be—
Just life unfolding naturally…
Without a “me” to see.

Bridge
No need to drop control—
It was never there to lose,
Just a story told too often
About the things we do.

Final Chorus
There’s no one driving this,
And somehow it still works,
Every move and every moment
Unfolding without a source.
And the freedom I was chasing
Was hidden in plain view—
Nothing left to take control of…
And nothing left to do.
