Story — The Centre That Invented Distance
Verse 1
I saw the ocean stretching out,
Felt like miles away,
A line between the sky and sea
At the edge of where I stay.
And I never thought to question
What that distance really meant—
Just built a world around it
And a self to represent.
Pre-Chorus
But the space I thought was out there
Wasn’t in the view…
Chorus
I drew a centre in the moment,
Called it “me” and held it tight,
Said the world was out there waiting
Just beyond my line of sight.
But every shape and every sound
Is right here as it appears—
Just interpretation rising…
With no real distance here.
Verse 2
Naomi in the sunlight,
Daniel by my side,
Clara’s voice, Elias laughing—
All felt like outside.
But strip it back to what is seen,
Before the names begin—
It’s colour, sound, and movement…
Not a world outside my skin.
Pre-Chorus
What I took as separate things
Were stories I believed…
Chorus
I drew a centre in the moment,
Split the world in two,
Made a here and made a there
From a single point of view.
But nothing’s actually divided
In the way it first appears—
It’s interpretation only…
That creates the “out” and “here.”
Bridge
No need to make it all as one,
No need to tear apart—
Just see the lines were never there
Outside a thinking heart.
Final Chorus
So I let the centre soften,
Let the edges disappear,
Not because they merged together—
But they never split from here.
And the world I thought was distant
Was just meaning I’d assigned—
To the simple flow of perception…
Drawn as separate in the mind.
