Story — The Road That Didn’t Go Anywhere
Verse 1
There’s a road that runs before me,
Gets thinner as it goes,
Fading into something distant
At the edge of what I know.
And I’ve always taken that to mean
It’s stretching far away—
But it’s all right here in front of me,
In the same exact display.
Pre-Chorus
What I thought was space between
Was something I just believed…
Chorus
The road doesn’t move away,
It just looks like it does,
Every inch is right here showing
Up inside the same because.
There’s no distance in the seeing,
Just a story that appears—
Saying “that is far from here.”
Verse 2
Naomi standing beside me,
Daniel pointing out the line,
How the edges pull together
Like they’re falling out of time.
But the far and near are equal
In the moment that I see—
There’s no gap inside the image,
Just the way it seems to be.
Pre-Chorus
Depth is something I’ve been taught,
Not something that I’ve actually got…
Chorus
The road doesn’t move away,
It just looks like it bends,
Into distance, into somewhere
That was never really “then.”
All the space I thought was real
Is a map my mind prepares—
There’s no distance in the moment…
Just a thought that says it’s there.
Bridge
And the same with every face I meet,
Every sound I hear—
I’ve been placing all the world outside
Of something I call “here.”
But the line I’ve been defending
Never once appeared…
Final Chorus
The world doesn’t move away,
It just looks like it does,
Every sight and every sound
Arrives in the same place as us.
No divide inside the seeing,
No far and no near—
Just this undivided moment…
And no “over there” from here.
