story: The Picture That Wouldn’t Appear
Verse 1
I held the picture to the light,
And tried to make my seeing right,
They said a hidden world was there
If I could learn the proper stare.
I moved it close, I moved away,
I waited for the grand display,
But all I saw were scattered spots
And all I thought was, I am lost.
Chorus
But nothing was behind the dots,
Nothing waiting to be caught,
Only colour, only sight,
Only this unfinished night.
Even longing had a place,
Even doubt belonged to grace,
Nothing missing, nothing barred—
Only this, exactly as you are.
Verse 2
I said, “I’m stuck; I cannot move.
There must be something left to prove.”
But “stuck” had built a road through time
And placed a future life at its end.
The chest grew tight, the shoulders bowed,
A silent “no” became a cloud,
Then even “no” was simply there—
A passing weather in the air.
Chorus
There was nothing behind the dots,
No final kingdom to unlock,
Only breathing, rain and sound,
Only feet upon the ground.
Even fighting had a place,
Even fear could show its face,
Nothing missing, nothing barred—
Only this, exactly as you are.
Bridge
I tried accepting what appeared
So it would kindly disappear,
Then saw the bargain hiding there:
A future dressed as present care.
So let the bargain come and go.
Let the wanting tell its “no.”
No hand is needed on the wheel;
No final thought can make this real.
Final Chorus
There is nothing behind the dots,
Nothing absent, nothing lost,
If the hidden picture shows,
It comes—and just as freely goes.
No arrival, no disgrace,
No experience out of place,
Even “I don’t understand”
Is life appearing where you stand.
Outro
The picture rises, then it’s gone.
The room remains. The rain goes on.
And no one has to make it fit—
This is it.
This is it.
