Story: The Salesman at the Cage
Verse 1
The salesman wore a clever suit
and spoke in polished lines
he said the body needed him
to supervise the signs
he said, “Without my stories
you will drift and fall apart”
and sold another contract
to the frightened human heart
Chorus
Blah blah blah
says the old mind selling fear
blah blah blah
you don’t need to follow here
let it touch and let it bounce
let it pass without a scar
the cage may still be standing
but we’ve broken off the bar
Verse 2
Thought came dressed as wisdom
thought came dressed as truth
thought came dressed as warning
from the frightened days of youth
but every golden sentence
had the same old hidden plea
keep me in employment
let me call this cage “me”
Bridge
No need to hate the thinking
no need to burn the page
but don’t let every whisper
lock you deeper in the cage
one day mind will help you
find the keys and catch the train
but first it has to lose
its little kingdom made of pain
Final Chorus
Blah blah blah
says the salesman at the door
blah blah blah
we have bought this tale before
let it touch and let it bounce
let it pass through like a star
the cage may still be standing
but the door is left ajar
