Not asleep

A song about "insomnia"

Verse 1
The night is long, the room is still,
Clock keeps talking, day won’t spill,
Every thought says “go to sleep,”
Like sleep’s a promise I should keep.
But here I am, eyes open wide,
Fighting the dark from the inside.

Chorus
I’m Not asleep, but not afraid,
Not every night is meant to fade,
When I stop trying to shut it down,
The quiet comes without a sound.
I’m Not asleep, and that’s okay,
I don’t have to chase away the day.

Verse 2
Tomorrow knocks before it’s here,
Bringing plans around and borrowed fear,
But in the now there’s just this bed,
This breath, this pulse inside my head.
No battle left, no need to win,
Just noticing the night I’m in.

Chorus
I’m Not asleep, but something’s changed,
The war I fought has disengaged,
The body softens when I see
There’s nothing wrong with being me.
I’m Not asleep but the whole world is,
And rest arrives when I don’t tizz.

Bridge
Sleep doesn’t come when I demand,
It comes when I don’t take command,
When the wanting falls apart,
Rest begins right where we are.

Chorus
I’m Not asleep, but I can rest,
Without the need to pass a test,
If sleep comes late or doesn’t start,
Peace can still inhabit dark.
I’m Not asleep—and strangely free,
The night’s not working against me.

Outro
not asleep…
and that’s ok.

still resting deep..
